A solid animal with the surfaces taken out

The whole body is a mesh: no flanks, no chest, no hide, just the web of lines where a surface would have been. It is the only thing we make that is a different object at two metres and at twenty centimetres, and it is the reason people cross a room to pick it up.

The antlers are why it is not cheap

A full rack rendered this fine is a dozen separate branches, most of them thinner than a match, printed into thin air and then cut free by hand. The printing is the easy part. The work is the blade at the end, and the ones that do not survive it.

White and bronze are not the same object

White reads as paper and bone. On a pale shelf it almost disappears and what you notice is the shape rather than the thing. It suits a plain room, and it is the one that looks like it came from a gallery.

Antique bronze is hand finished: a dark base with the metal dry-brushed across every raised edge of the mesh, so the lines catch and the holes stay black. It reads as cast rather than printed, and against a dark wall it is the one that stops people.

It stands on its own plate

A flat rectangular base, part of the piece, so it stands square on a shelf without leaning and without anything to assemble. The legs meet it in four places and the whole thing is rigid.

Put a light behind it

Low, and off to one side. The mesh throws its own pattern onto the wall and the antlers land up there at about twice life size. It is the closest thing we make to a light fitting that is not a lamp.

Looking after it

Handle it by the body or the base, never by the antlers. Dust it with a soft brush or a puff of air rather than a cloth, which will catch a tine and take it clean off. Out of direct sun, because PLA softens around 60 degrees.
