Ribbon Vase, Open Lattice Sculpture
Price range: $49.00 through $129.00
An amphora with most of itself removed. A flared lip and a body made of ribbons that lean past each other, so the light gets through the middle of it. It holds nothing, and it holds it beautifully.

An amphora that has had most of itself removed. What is left is the line the shape would have followed anyway: a flared lip and a body made entirely of ribbons that lean past each other, cross over and keep going.
It holds nothing, and that is the point
The walls are open the whole way round. No water, no stems in water, nothing that pours. This is a sculpture in the shape of a vessel, which is a much older idea than it sounds, and the empty middle is what lets the light through the pattern.
Dried stems, pampas and bare branches all work. Anything that needs a drink does not. If you want it holding real flowers, stand a slim glass tube inside it and nobody will ever know.
The colour is doing half the work
Made in silk filament, which has a genuine sheen rather than a coating, so the red shifts as you walk past it and every ribbon picks up a different amount of light. Photographs flatten it. In a room it behaves more like glazed ceramic than like plastic.
Three sizes, and they do different jobs
The 30cm is the tall one in the second photograph. It is a floor or sideboard piece and it needs its own space to work.
The 20cm is the one most people want, which is usually the way. A shelf, a mantel, a dining table that still has room for dinner.
The 15cm is the small one. Desks, windowsills, the gap at the end of a bookshelf. It is also the one people buy two of.
Left as it came off the bed
No paint, no filler, no sanding. The fine horizontal lines are the layers themselves and they are part of why the sheen behaves the way it does. Anything that smoothed them out would flatten the colour with them.
The numbers
- Sculpted and finished by hand in Australia, one at a time.
- KEEPER 002. That number belongs to this design and will never be given to another.
- Three heights: 15cm, 20cm and 30cm.
- Red silk PLA. More colours coming.
Looking after it
There is nothing on it thin enough to snap off, which was not true of the old shape. Lift it with a hand either side of the body rather than by the rim, because the rim is the one part carrying no ribbons underneath it. Dust with a soft dry brush, which gets through the lattice in a way a cloth cannot. Keep it out of direct sun and out of a hot car, because PLA softens around 60 degrees and a tall thin piece will lean before it melts.
Ordering one now
Made to order. The large one takes most of a day on the machine, so order it and yours goes into the next batch, usually within a fortnight. You are emailed when it goes on the bed and again when it ships.
Change your mind before it is made and we refund it in full without asking why. After that you still have every right you have under Australian Consumer Law, which we cannot exclude and would not want to.
What made to order means
Nothing here sits in a box waiting for a buyer. Yours is made in the next batch, finished by hand, and sent to you. That is two to three weeks in practice, and we email you the day it starts rather than leaving you guessing.
Change your mind before it is made and you get your money back. No forms, no questions, no restocking fee, because there is no stock to restock.
