This is a decorative replica and not a real animal skull. Nothing in it was ever an animal. It is made and finished by hand in Australia.

The same skull, at desk size

Three hundred millimetres tip to tip. Small enough to live on a desk, a bookshelf or a bedside table, and still carved over every surface the way the big one is. Nothing was simplified to make it smaller.

It is the one people pick up. The full size version stays on the wall and gets looked at. This one gets handled, turned over, and put back slightly differently every time.

Why you might want this one instead

Six hundred millimetres of skull is a commitment. It needs a wall, or most of a sideboard, and it decides the character of the room whether you wanted it to or not.

This does not. It sits on a shelf between books and a lamp and gets on with it. If you like the carving but do not have a bare wall to give up, this is the version that fits your actual house.

It is also the cheaper way to find out whether you like the thing in person. Photographs do not do relief any favours.

The carving is not reduced

Every surface carries the mandala: the frontal plate, down the nasal bone, out along the jaw. Cut into the form rather than stamped on top of it, so it catches light differently depending on where you stand.

At this size the relief is finer and closer together, which means it rewards being close far more than the big one does. On a desk it is at exactly the right distance to be read.

The horns screw in

The skull is one piece and the two horns are separate, threading into a socket on each side. You fit them when it arrives. It takes a minute and needs nothing but your hands, and the thread stops at the right depth on its own.

That also means the horns are a choice. Plain, black, gold or silver, and a longer pair if you want the span without the bulk. The four finishes are here, not on sale yet, with a list that hears first.

Where it goes

Free standing. It sits upright on a flat surface and wants about three hundred millimetres of clear width. No hook, no bracket, no wall fixing, and nothing to drill.

Under two hundred grams, so a shelf that holds paperbacks holds this without thinking about it.

Made in Australia

Drawn here, made here, finished here by hand. PLA, filled, sanded and sealed across every carved surface. Because the finishing is done by hand, no two come out quite the same.

PLA is a bioplastic fermented from plant starch, from crops like corn, sugarcane and cassava rather than crude oil. Plant-based does not mean it composts, which needs an industrial composter at around sixty degrees for weeks. It is a plastic made from plants, not a plastic that disappears.

Looking after it

Dust with a soft dry brush rather than a cloth, which snags in the relief and pulls. PLA softens at about sixty degrees, so keep it out of direct afternoon sun and away from heaters. Indoors only.

A display piece, not a toy. The horn tips are pointed.

What made to order means

Nothing here sits in a box waiting for a buyer. Yours is made in the next batch, finished by hand, and sent to you. That is two to three weeks in practice, and we email you the day it starts rather than leaving you guessing.

Change your mind before it is made and you get your money back. No forms, no questions, no restocking fee, because there is no stock to restock.
