This is a decorative replica and not a real animal skull. Nothing in it was ever an animal. It is made and finished by hand in Australia.

Knotwork on a skull that fits in one hand

A hundred and eighty millimetres tall, with the horns curled back tight against the jaw the way a ram’s actually are. Norse knotwork cut into every plane of it, all the way down into the form.

The full size version is a wall piece. This is a desk piece, and the difference matters more than the price does: you will pick this one up.

Why the ram is the difficult one

Most carved skulls are flat canvases. A cow skull is broad and open and the pattern has room to breathe.

A ram is not. The horns curl in and crowd the skull, so every line of knotwork has to follow a surface that is turning away from you. That is the whole appeal of it. Look at one from three angles and you see three different objects.

One piece, no assembly

The horns are part of the skull rather than screwed on, because at this size they curl too close to turn. It comes out of the box finished. Nothing to fit, nothing to align, nothing to lose.

That also means it is the sturdiest thing in the range. There is no joint in it to fail.

Where it goes

Free standing on a flat surface. A shelf, a desk, a mantel, the top of a bookcase. It needs about a hundred and forty millimetres of width, which is less than a hardback.

Around a hundred and twenty grams, so it goes anywhere that holds a mug.

The cheapest way in

If you want to know whether carved relief is worth owning before spending three figures on it, start here. Photographs flatten this kind of surface and there is no substitute for having one on a desk under a lamp.

It is also the one that posts sensibly. The large skulls need a carton wide enough for horns, and couriers bill those by size rather than weight. This goes in an ordinary box.

Made in Australia

Drawn here, made here, finished here by hand. PLA, filled, sanded and sealed across every carved surface. Because the finishing is done by hand, no two come out quite the same.

PLA is a bioplastic fermented from plant starch, from crops like corn, sugarcane and cassava rather than crude oil. Plant-based does not mean it composts, which needs an industrial composter at around sixty degrees for weeks. It is a plastic made from plants, not a plastic that disappears.

Looking after it

Dust with a soft dry brush rather than a cloth, which catches in the knotwork. PLA softens at about sixty degrees, so keep it out of direct afternoon sun and away from heaters. Indoors only.

A display piece, not a toy.

What made to order means

Nothing here sits in a box waiting for a buyer. Yours is made in the next batch, finished by hand, and sent to you. That is two to three weeks in practice, and we email you the day it starts rather than leaving you guessing.
