The famous piece of footage is fifty three seconds long, shot beside a creek in northern California in 1967, and the argument about it has now been running for nearly sixty years.
This is the bit everybody remembers: mid stride, arms swinging, turning to look back at whoever is holding the camera.
The look back is the whole sculpture
Not fleeing, not charging. Walking away at its own pace and turning its head because something behind it made a noise. Every other bigfoot figure on the market is roaring at you with its arms up. This one has already dismissed you.
The fur is sculpted, not textured
Every lock runs with the muscle underneath: down the back, along the outside of the thigh, out over the forearm. That is why it reads as an animal in motion rather than a standing figure with a rough surface, and it is where nearly all the modelling time went.
The face is left smoother by contrast. Heavy brow, low forehead, deep-set eyes, hominid rather than ape, which is the distinction most sculpts of this thing get wrong.
It stands on its own ground
A modelled rock base, part of the piece, so it stands square without a plinth. The lifted foot is the classic detail and it is what makes the whole thing read as movement rather than a pose.
The bust is WEIRDO 001
Same creature, head and shoulders, three hundred millimetres. If you want the one that looks back at you from eye level rather than the one walking across the shelf, that is the other one.
Left unpainted
Bare bone-white, which is what lets the fur read as carving rather than as brown plastic. A hand-finished version with a dark wash worked down between the locks is coming.
The numbers
- Printed and finished by hand in Australia.
- WEIRDO 006. That number belongs to this design and will never be given to another.
- Height and base to be confirmed.
Looking after it
It stands on two legs with one foot off the ground, so the ankles carry everything. Lift it by the body or the base, never by an arm or a leg. Dust with a soft dry brush rather than a cloth, which catches in the fur. Out of direct sun, because PLA softens around 60 degrees.
Ordering one now
Made to order. Order it and yours goes into the next batch, usually within a fortnight, and you are emailed when it goes on the bed and again when it ships.
Change your mind before it is printed and we refund it in full without asking why. After that you still have every right you have under Australian Consumer Law, which we cannot exclude and would not want to.
