Twisted Swirl Lamp, Olive Green
Price range: $39.00 through $59.00
Switch it on and the green disappears. It goes gold, the way a bottle does held up to a candle, and the wall goes warm with it. Runs off a phone charger.

BEACON 001 is the odd one, and it is the one people ask about.
Olive green is a strange thing to put a light behind
Lit, it does not stay green. It goes gold, the way a green bottle does when you hold it up to a candle, with the olive surviving only in the deep folds where the plastic doubles back on itself. The wall behind it gets warm light, not coloured light, which is why it works in a room where a blue lamp would not. Switched off in daylight it is a dark sculptural object rather than a lamp waiting to be useful, and that is the half of the day most lamps forget about entirely.
Two sizes, and they are two different objects
170 mm is a night light. Bedside table, windowsill, the shelf in a hallway. It runs off the same charger as your phone and it will not keep anyone awake. Because it is the shorter version of the same shape, it reads rounder and heavier, more pot than column.
270 mm is a lamp. Enough throw to take a corner of a room on its own, and it is the one people mean when they say they want one. Stretched to this height the same shape reads tall and slim, and the spiral opens out as it climbs.
The ribs are why the light moves
The spiral is cut deep enough that the light has to climb it, so the glow arrives twisted instead of flat and the wall behind gets the pattern for free. Walk past it and the whole surface turns over.
The print lines are part of that. Each one catches slightly differently, which is what gives the surface something to do. A perfectly smooth shade is a perfectly flat glow.
It runs off a USB port
No mains, no plug, no electrician, nothing to certify. A laptop, a wall charger, a power bank, or the socket in a car will all run it. That is why this shape of lamp ends up beside a bed and on a desk rather than in a lounge room.
What it is actually like in the room
Bright enough to find your phone by, nowhere near bright enough to read a book. Ambient light, night light, mood light. Anybody selling a printed shade as a reading lamp has not switched one on.
Looking after it
Out of direct sun, because PLA softens around 60 degrees and the shade is thin by design. Dust along the ribs with a soft dry brush. Never a wet cloth.
